Key Responsibilities
As a Farm Assistant / Herd Manager, your main duties will include:
- Milking 1,580 cows efficiently through an 80-bail automatic rotary system.
- Monitoring cow health and promptly identifying or addressing any issues.
- Assisting with calving, feeding, and general animal husbandry tasks.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of milking equipment and facilities.
- Supporting pasture management, stock rotation, and feeding schedules.
- Recording accurate production, breeding, and health data.
- Collaborating with the Farm Manager and team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Promoting a safe, positive, and efficient working environment.
Requirements
To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 1–3 years of dairy farming or relevant agricultural experience.
- Previous experience working with large herds and rotary milking systems preferred.
- Basic understanding of animal health, welfare, and milking procedures.
- Familiarity with farm machinery and basic mechanical skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to farm safety standards.
- Valid work rights to work in New Zealand.
- Availability to work 45 hours per week, following a 5 days on / 2 days off roster.
