Job Summary
Waste Management NZ is currently seeking a qualified Welder to join its Christchurch Branch. The successful applicant will help maintain and repair a large fleet of over 100 municipal, commercial, and landfill trucks across the Canterbury region. This is a hands-on technical position where you’ll work with a highly skilled maintenance team ensuring that all fleet assets operate safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
As a Welder at Waste Management NZ, you’ll be responsible for:
- Performing MIG and TIG welding on unit frames, bodies, and metal parts.
- Repairing cracks, breaks, and worn components on trucks and units.
- Fabricating custom parts, panels, and reinforcements when required.
- Coordinating with supervisors to plan and schedule maintenance work.
- Assisting with general vehicle maintenance tasks when needed.
- Maintaining accurate records and job logs for all work performed.
- Ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards at all times.
- Managing job orders using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Requisitioning necessary repair parts and consumables.
- Conducting daily tool and equipment checks to maintain service readiness.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a New Zealand Certificate in Welding (Level 4).
- Previous experience in automotive or heavy vehicle welding preferred.
- Proficiency in using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- A Class 4 driver’s licence is advantageous (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.
- Strong knowledge of MIG and TIG welding processes.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safety standards.
