Thornton Engineering is currently seeking trade-qualified Welder Job in Australia to join its skilled team at the Corio workshops in Australia. This role is ideal for experienced professionals with strong capabilities in GMAW (MIG) welding and exposure to GTAW (TIG), Flux-Core, and SMAW (Stick) processes. As part of a high-performing fabrication team, you will contribute to the delivery of large-scale steel components for some of Australia’s most iconic infrastructure projects. Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality welding using MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and/or Stick processes
- Interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS) to determine consumables and variables
- Operate and maintain welding machines, power tools, hand tools, and measuring equipment
- Produce fabricated components in line with engineering drawings and quality standards
- Report to the Workshop Supervisor and follow production schedules
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and client specifications
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Assist boilermakers and team members as required
Requirements
- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Welder) or equivalent
- Ability to pass a welder qualification test
- Considerable experience in GMAW (MIG) welding
- Ability to read and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Current and valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work in a workshop-based environment
Skills
- Strong welding and fabrication skills
- Experience with TIG, Flux-Core, and Stick welding (advantageous)
- Stainless steel welding experience (advantageous)
- Skilled in operating fabrication and welding equipment
- High attention to detail and quality
- Strong understanding of safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
