Employees in this position perform routine manual labour in a wide variety of construction, maintenance and repair operations. Work of this class includes both heavy and light physical labour. Outside Summer Seasonal positions will be responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of various City assets within the Public Works Operation Division.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Horticultural maintenance: Assisting in planting, weeding and maintaining of annual, perennial and shrub beds along with other horticultural displays
- Ground maintenance: Performing tasks such as mowing, trimming activities, and maintaining general cleanliness of park landscapes.
- Parks Infrastructure: Performing field lining, gilling and various amenity repairs to sports fields.
- Assist staff in the inspection, cleaning and repair of multiple park amenities e.g. playgrounds, splash pads and picnic shelters
- Urban Forestry: Supporting small and large tree care activities.
- Waste Management: Conducting regular litter picking and planned garbage/recycling collection and disposal of waste in parks.
- Events: Providing support for special events, including delivery of materials, set up, takedown, and clean-up
- Operate various hand tools and powered equipment, including a pickup truck (minimum ¾ ton truck) for diverse maintenance and operational tasks.

Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Driver’s License.
- Previous experience with a variety of construction, maintenance and repair operations.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform light and/or heavy manual labouring tasks.
- Ability to operate small hand tools and motorized equipment efficiently.
- Training in WHMIS and Surveying experience would be an asset.
