About the Role – Farm Attendant

The Farm Attendant role involves supporting day-to-day husbandry of salmon at JBS’s marine sites. You’ll assist the Fish Performance Manager and work closely with the Hobart-based Control Room to ensure the efficient operation of feeding systems, maintenance of aquaculture equipment, and monitoring of fish behavior.

This is a full-time, in-person role that offers the chance to work outdoors, contribute to the success of Australia’s aquaculture sector, and be part of a company that prioritizes employee well-being and environmental care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fish Performance Manager with daily fish husbandry tasks.
  • Serve as skipper or crew member, maintaining vessels and ensuring safety aboard.
  • Keep marine sites and shore bases clean, organized, and biosecure.
  • Monitor feed spreads, cameras, and winches to ensure proper operation.
  • Observe fish behavior and report hunger or predator activity to relevant teams.
  • Repair and maintain feed delivery equipment and feeding systems.
  • Assist with feed transfers and ensure barge maintenance requests are handled promptly.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for feed equipment audits and tracking.
  • Support installation and maintenance of aquaculture pens and mooring systems.
  • Communicate effectively with the Control Room and management teams.
  • Report and respond to predator activity, including seals and birds in nets.
  • Follow biosecurity procedures when cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working safely in fast-paced or dynamic environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and quick decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Sound judgment and initiative to achieve work outcomes.
  • A Coxswain’s ticket (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Certificate III in Aquaculture is desirable but not essential.
  • Keen attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
  • Commitment to learning, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Must pass a pre-employment health assessment.
