Responsibilities

As a Tomato Worker at Costa Australia, you may work across three key operational areas:

1. Crop Work

  • Caring for tomato plants through leafing, pollinating, twisting, and lowering
  • Working in glasshouses with temperatures up to 30°C and high humidity
  • Standing or walking for 8 hours per shift
  • Performing repetitive light-movement tasks with hands and arms
  • Occasionally working at heights
  • Rostered mainly Monday to Friday

2. Picking

  • Harvesting ripe tomatoes efficiently and safely
  • Working in warm glasshouse conditions
  • Standing or walking for up to 9.5 hours per shift
  • Performing light repetitive tasks with hands and arms
  • Occasionally working at heights
  • Shifts typically rostered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

3. Packing

  • Packing tomatoes in a controlled indoor environment cooled to around 12°C
  • Standing for 9.5 hours per shift
  • Performing repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Ensuring accurate packaging and quality control
  • Shifts mostly rostered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

Requirements

To qualify for these roles, candidates must:

  • Have valid work rights in Australia
  • Have access to reliable transport to the work site (no public transport available)
  • Be physically fit to perform manual tasks and stand for long hours
  • Be able to work in warm or humid environments (for crop and picking roles)
  • Have a basic understanding of English (written and spoken)
  • Be able to follow safety, hygiene, and food quality standards
