Aecon Group is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Welder Job in New Zealand to support major infrastructure projects within its Civil East sector. This position is based in Barbados and reports directly to the Construction Manager. The role involves fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures using industry-standard welding techniques. Operating Sector – Civil East

Aecon’s Civil East sector specializes in heavy civil construction and delivers world-class infrastructure solutions. In the Caribbean region, Aecon applies its global expertise to projects designed to meet the unique needs of island communities. The sector is known for strong execution, technical excellence, and collaborative project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Layout, fit, and weld fabricated steel components following blueprints and shop drawings
  • Perform welding using GMAW, MCAW, and FCAW techniques on mild steel
  • Prepare and cut metal materials for fabrication and repair work
  • Operate overhead cranes, cutting torches, grinders, and fabrication tools
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure quality and compliance with standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet project timelines

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in custom steel fabrication
  • AWS, CWB certification, or equivalent (mandatory)
  • Strong ability to read blueprints and welding symbols
  • Proven experience with GMAW, MCAW, and FCAW welding methods
  • Knowledge of shop math and fabrication tolerances
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience in a fabrication shop environment

Physical and Technical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Forklift and overhead crane operation experience
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and precision
