Key Responsibilities

Nursery Workers at Bylands handle a wide variety of outdoor and hands-on tasks, including:

  • Pruning trees, shrubs, and plants
  • Mixing and preparing soils
  • Planting bulbs and seeds
  • Potting and re-potting plants
  • Transplanting seedlings and rooted cuttings
  • Assisting with grafting work
  • Digging up and wrapping root-balls for trees and shrubs
  • Watering and tending to plants, gardens, and lawns
  • Labeling, moving, and loading plants
  • Spraying plants to prevent disease and pests
  • Operating equipment such as tractors, sprayers, forklifts, loaders, and hand tools

Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time and up to 6 days per week during peak seasons
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, wind)
  • Physically fit to handle frequent bending, lifting, walking, and reaching
  • Willingness to learn plant names and nursery techniques
  • Ability to work with a diverse team of people from different countries
  • No specific education required — training is provided

Skills

  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude

  • Interest in plants, gardening, or outdoor work
  • Basic equipment-handling skills (or willingness to learn)
  • Spanish language skills are a bonus but not required
