Responsibilities
Key duties of the Project Engineer include:
- Assisting the Project Manager with daily project planning and coordination
- Managing subcontractor activities including scheduling, resources, quality control, and cost management
- Supervising installation, alignment, testing, and pre-commissioning of mechanical equipment and piping systems
- Ensuring work complies with project specifications, approved drawings, and industry standards such as ASME and API codes
- Preparing and reviewing method statements and construction procedures
- Monitoring daily work progress and productivity of subcontractors
- Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports
- Resolving technical and engineering issues at the construction site
- Enforcing strict safety standards and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems
- Coordinating with civil, structural, and electrical teams to ensure smooth workflow
- Liaising with client representatives, consultants, and equipment vendors
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of site experience in mechanical and piping construction
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or process industries
- Experience with natural gas projects such as pipelines, meter stations, or terminals preferred
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and heavy equipment handling
- Familiarity with Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health regulations is advantageous
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID, isometric, and general arrangement drawings
- Knowledge of welding processes, NDE methods, and pressure testing procedures
- Strong leadership and site supervision abilities
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment
- Proficiency in Cantonese and English (spoken and written)
