Key Responsibilities
As a Dairy Farm Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
Feed Production Management:
- Assist with feed planning and management.
- Help manage weeds and pests to maintain pasture and crops.
- Apply fertilizer and implement irrigation requirements as needed.
Milking:
- Ensure all aspects of the milking process operate efficiently.
- Maintain plant hygiene and manage somatic cell counts to meet grade-free standards.
Effluent Management:
- Operate and maintain the effluent system according to regional council compliance requirements.
- Keep accurate effluent management records.
- Respond appropriately when issues arise.
Animal Care:
- Support the implementation of the animal health program to maintain good herd health.
- Assist with calving, wintering, and calf rearing programs.
- Maintain herd records and report any unwell animals to the Farm Manager.
Business Support:
- Assist the Dairy Farm Manager with the Farm Business Plan.
- Help manage repairs and maintenance schedules for all plant, machinery, and infrastructure.
- Follow company policies and procedures accurately.
Health and Safety:
- Comply with all health and safety requirements.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Environmental Responsibilities:
- Work according to best practice environmental guidelines.
Job Requirements
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Physically fit and willing to learn new skills.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and have no criminal record.
- No prior experience in dairy shed or pasture-based farming is required (training provided).
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Eligible to work in New Zealand (citizens, residents, or temporary visa holders).
