Key Responsibilities

As a Welder at Suncor Energy, you will be responsible for a variety of maintenance and fabrication tasks to ensure the reliability of the company’s industrial operations.
Your key responsibilities include:

  1. Performing fabrication and repair of pressure components and piping systems.
  2. Conducting welding tasks on pressure vessels, piping, and structural applications in a multi-disciplined workshop.
  3. Executing both planned maintenance and emergency (“break-in”) welding repairs.
  4. Operating company-provided welding and fabrication equipment safely.
  5. Inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting welding tools and equipment.
  6. Recommending procedural improvements to increase efficiency and safety.
  7. Ensuring all work meets Suncor’s quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  8. Working collaboratively with maintenance and operations teams.
  9. Performing work at elevated sites, confined spaces, and varying indoor/outdoor environments.
  10. Following strict safety protocols in all maintenance and repair activities.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Valid Alberta Journeyperson Welder Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Welder Certificate
  • B-Pressure Certification
  • Minimum of five years of post-apprenticeship experience in a heavy-industrial welding environment
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift, climb, and work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and industrial standards
